Established in 1823, the current Cape May Lighthouse was built in 1859, and it marks the northern entrance to Delaware Bay. The light was automated in 1933, and the property was turned over to the state of New Jersey, which sub-leases it to the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts and Humanities.
