Barnegat Lighthouse

Established in 1835, the current Barnegat Lighthouse tower was built in 1857. The lighthouse was run by the government until 1926, when the light was placed offshore on the Barnegat Lightship. The lighthouse was discontinued in 1944, and a public outcry led to restoration of the lighthouse.
